“Storm Claudia Rattles Tameside: Trees Topple, Homes Evacuated”

Date:

Residents were startled by a loud noise akin to an explosion amid Storm Claudia, prompting the evacuation of three individuals from a residence in Tameside. The tumultuous weather caused a massive tree to crash onto their property. In another incident, an Elm tree at Milton St John’s Primary school in Mossley succumbed to the high winds, falling onto a row of terraces, leading to significant damage including a punctured roof and a tilting gable wall, as confirmed by the property’s owner, Danny Wilco, who rents out the premises. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the three adults present during the incident. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, cordoning off the affected area. The road from Carrhill Road junction to Milton Street remains closed for safety measures. Experts have been summoned to assess the extent of the destruction caused by the fallen tree. Mr. Wilco recounted the residents’ shock at the noise, likening it to a bomb explosion. He emphasized the fortunate timing of the incident, noting that had it occurred on a school day, it could have resulted in severe consequences. The Elm tree, now the only one left in Mossley, inflicted damage to the property, puncturing the roof and causing the gable wall to lean. Mr. Wilco, who manages multiple properties in Tameside and Oldham, mentioned a series of other weather-related incidents he had encountered recently. Storm Claudia’s impact was evident across the region, with numerous trees uprooted, including one that fell onto homes in Edgeley, Stockport. The disruption extended to transportation networks, with railway services, tram lines, and major routes experiencing severe interruptions due to the adverse weather conditions.
