In the lead-up to the holiday season, visitors in London may come across a special display created with the help of Apple’s iPad. The well-known tablet was utilized to design 24 festive patterns that are now being projected onto the iconic structures at Battersea Power Station, a location that Apple also calls its UK base.
These vibrant artworks were carefully selected from numerous entries submitted by the public in Apple’s “Your Tree on Battersea” contest. As night falls, these images will illuminate two of the towering 101-meter chimneys overlooking the River Thames.
One of the delighted winners, Varsha Simha from Canterbury, expressed her excitement, mentioning her inspiration drawn from the cozy Christmas market ambiance during the chilly months. Another winner, 7-year-old Miah D.B, shared her joy at being chosen, highlighting her love for iPad drawing and the emotional inspiration behind her tree creation.
Alongside the winners, renowned personalities like Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE, and Chawawa have contributed their own drawings to the display.
This competition continues Apple’s tradition of promoting festive creativity and marks the first time the company has opened such an opportunity to the general public. Reflecting on past initiatives, artist David Hockney previously crafted “Bigger Christmas Trees on iPad Pro” in 2023, while Aardman, the creators of Wallace & Gromit, used iPhone 16 Pro Max for a short animation last year.
Chawawa, a key figure in the project, expressed the significance of hosting Apple’s inaugural iPad Christmas tree competition, reminiscing about his childhood experiences with the device and the pride in involving the nation to create and illuminate Christmas trees on iPad throughout the city.
The captivating images will light up Battersea from now until Christmas Eve.
