The family of Ricky Hatton reported that he appeared to be in good health just before his passing, according to testimony in a Coroner’s Court session on October 16.
During the proceedings led by Coroner Alison Mutch at South Manchester’s Coroner’s Court in Stockport, the initial cause of death was indicated as ‘hanging.’ A comprehensive inquest is scheduled for March 20, 2026.
Paul Speak, Hatton’s manager and longtime friend, discovered Hatton unresponsive at his residence in Gee Cross, Hyde, on September 14. They were preparing to depart for Dubai from Manchester Airport.
Authorities from the Greater Manchester Police confirmed Hatton’s passing, stating no suspicious circumstances were suspected and the case was referred to the coroner.
Witnesses revealed that Hatton was last seen by relatives two days before his discovery, seeming well at the time. However, he failed to attend a planned event the following day without providing details to the court.
Following Hatton’s passing, Speak recounted finding him unresponsive, expressing disbelief and confusion. Despite the circumstances, Speak believed Hatton did not intend for the tragic event to occur.
Hatton’s funeral occurred at Manchester Cathedral, where a large crowd paid their respects. The funeral procession journeyed through various locations significant to Hatton, with notable figures like Tyson Fury and Liam Gallagher in attendance.
Eulogies were read during the service, highlighting Hatton’s legacy as a boxing icon and a hero of the working class. The cortege later visited the Etihad Stadium before proceeding to a private committal with close family members.
