“UK Braces for First Snowfall as Arctic Weather Sweeps In”

Date:

A bout of Arctic weather is forecast to bring the first snowfall of the winter to over 20 regions in the UK next week. The Met Office anticipates a significant shift in weather patterns following a period of heavy rain, with a likelihood of snow as cold Arctic air sweeps across the country.

Meteorologists expect high pressure to dominate the weekend weather, moving southwards towards the Azores and ushering in chilly northerly winds. This shift is projected to lead to a drop in temperatures, potentially bringing wintry conditions and snow to various parts of the UK.

The Met Office warns of plummeting temperatures and a nationwide cold spell, with temperatures expected to dip several degrees below average. There is a growing probability of sleet and snow, especially over elevated terrains in Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and potentially North Wales.

According to OpenWeather forecasts, snowfall is predicted to begin in Scotland and the North East on Monday, spreading to Wales on Tuesday and potentially reaching Gloucestershire in the South West. There is also a chance of snow in Northern Ireland by Wednesday.

The Met Office highlights an increasing likelihood of snow accumulation in various regions as the week progresses. The forecast suggests a potential wintry spell across the country, with even southern areas expected to experience snowfall. Additionally, the risk of ice formation on cold surfaces is also mentioned.

Looking ahead to November 19-28, the Met Office expects colder conditions to extend across the UK, bringing snow showers to the north and frosty conditions to the south. Towards the end of the period, a shift towards more changeable weather patterns is anticipated, with possible rain, showers, and hill snow in northern regions. Overall, temperatures are forecast to return to near-average levels.
