Jack Draper, the British tennis player, has parted ways with his coach of four years, James Trotman. Trotman guided Draper to three ATP Tour titles, including a victory at Indian Wells, a semi-final appearance at the 2024 US Open, and a career-high ranking of No.4 in the world.
The decision for the split came as Trotman opted to step back from coaching to prioritize his family. Draper’s 2025 season was cut short due to an arm injury, which limited him to just one official match after Wimbledon, where he reached the second round of the US Open before withdrawing.
To fill the coaching void, Draper recently enlisted the services of Jamie Delgado, a former coach of Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov. Delgado, who is anticipated to travel with Draper for most tournaments, was initially expected to work alongside Trotman in Draper’s team.
Trotman, citing his parental responsibilities, believes he cannot provide the necessary support that Draper, currently ranked No.9 in the world, requires while focusing more on his family. Despite the split, Trotman will always be regarded as part of Draper’s team, with Draper expressing gratitude for his longtime coach.
Draper is scheduled to make his competitive return at the UTS London event in December, with Delgado taking on the role of head coach. Delgado’s coaching experience includes a successful tenure with Murray, assisting him in achieving significant milestones in his career, such as winning Wimbledon and attaining the world No.1 ranking.
Additionally, Delgado coached Dimitrov for three years, during which the Bulgarian player experienced a resurgence in his career, securing titles and returning to the top 10 rankings. However, Dimitrov’s journey was interrupted by a heartbreaking injury at Wimbledon, forcing him to retire from the tournament and subsequently end his partnership with Delgado.
In a strategic move, Draper has also added Shane Annun and Matt Little, former members of Murray’s team, as part of his coaching crew. Draper has been intensively training at the National Tennis Centre gym and recently completed a brief training session in the Algarve.
