“UK Airline Eastern Airways Nears Administration, Flights Canceled”

Date:

Eastern Airways, a UK airline, is on the verge of going into administration, resulting in the cancellation of its flights. The airline has submitted a notice of intent to appoint an administrator, signaling its imminent entry into administration. This action initiates a temporary halt that prevents creditors from pursuing legal action against the company for ten days. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has verified that Eastern Airways has ceased its operations.

Established in 1997, Eastern Airways serves various domestic airports in the UK, such as Aberdeen, Humberside, London Gatwick, Newquay, Teesside International, and Wick. It previously operated flights to international destinations, including Paris, France. The airline caters to approximately 1.3 million passengers annually. The Mirror has reached out to Eastern Airways for a statement.

Selina Chadha, Consumer & Markets Director at the Civil Aviation Authority, advised passengers not to proceed to the airport as all Eastern Airways flights have been canceled. Affected customers are encouraged to visit the Civil Aviation Authority’s website for the latest updates.

For travelers with bookings as part of a packaged holiday, the holiday provider will arrange an alternative flight or provide a full refund. In cases where the flight is not part of a packaged holiday, individuals may need to purchase a new flight if their trip is canceled. If scheduled airline failure is covered in their travel insurance policy, passengers may be eligible to make a claim. Alternatively, they might be able to file a claim through their debit or credit card provider.

Eastern Airways reported a net loss of £19.7 million for the period ending March 2024. The airline’s total debt increased to £25.97 million, while profits declined to £454,000, down from £1.55 million the previous year.

This development follows the recent collapse of budget Icelandic airline Fly PLAY, which also went into administration, leading to the immediate cancellation of all its flights. Usher Travel Worldchoice, an independent travel agent, ceased trading earlier this month. Gavin Morton, a director with 35 years of experience at the company, expressed deep sorrow over the decision to close.

Additionally, Balkan Holidays Ltd, Jetline Travel, and Great Little Escapes LLP have also ceased operations this year. Stay updated on money-saving tips and top offers by subscribing to the Mirror Money newsletter.
