Oleksandr Usyk has declined a possible bout with up-and-coming British talent Moses Itauma. The Ukrainian secured his second undisputed heavyweight championship in July by defeating Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in front of a massive crowd of over 90,000. Despite initially suggesting he had only two fights left before retirement, Usyk has now committed to fighting until he reaches the age of 41, as per his recent statement to UNN.
While Usyk gears up for his return to the ring next year, potential opponents include Joseph Parker and a resurgent Tyson Fury. Itauma, a promising undefeated boxer, was considered a contender to face Usyk following his impressive victory over Dillian Whyte in August. However, Usyk has dismissed the notion of facing Itauma, citing the young fighter’s reluctance to fight him due to his age.
Itauma, aged 20, had the opportunity to vie for a shot at Usyk by contesting an IBF final eliminator against Frank Sanchez but opted for a different path towards a world title fight.
