A vacationing British man in Ibiza has expressed disappointment with the island as his Mediterranean trip turned disastrous. Taylor Budd, a travel influencer, described surviving what he called a “natural disaster” on Tuesday amidst severe rain and flooding on the Spanish island.
In a TikTok video, Taylor shared the challenges he faced due to the extensive surface water that made it difficult to move around. He recounted receiving urgent alerts advising people to avoid certain areas and move to higher floors in buildings.
Taylor recounted a chaotic situation where panic ensued among tourists, leading to transportation issues. He highlighted his own ordeal of being stuck in a taxi for hours due to the impassable roads, incurring extra expenses.
Expressing concern over the island’s infrastructure, Taylor mentioned water seeping out of walls and widespread flooding, causing disruptions and property damages. He also raised worries about the structural integrity of buildings in Ibiza under extreme weather conditions.
Despite some improvements later in the day, Taylor described the situation as chaotic, with local establishments like Cova Santa postponing events due to the aftermath of the storm. He struggled to find a taxi willing to navigate the flooded streets, emphasizing the challenging conditions.
Following the severe weather, Ibiza Airport issued a statement urging travelers to check their flight statuses with airlines. The Director General of Emergencies reported significant rainfall and reassured that the storm was weakening.
An incident involving a hillside collapse left around 220 tourists stranded, but emergency responders managed to rescue them with minimal injuries reported. The affected individuals were relocated to nearby accommodations for safety.
