“UK Braces for Heavy Snowfall Rates Up to 10cm/hr”

Date:

In the upcoming two weeks, certain regions of the UK are expected to experience heavy snowfall rates of up to 10cm per hour, as indicated by weather maps. The latest GFS weather model projections reveal a pattern of wet and icy weather moving across significant parts of the UK from November 13 to November 17.

On November 13 at 6pm, the weather map highlights intense rainfall spreading through Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of northern England, particularly around Newcastle. In the Scottish Highlands, particularly around Inverness and Aberdeen, snowfall rates could reach up to 5cm per hour. Edinburgh may witness a mix of sleet or wet snow, while regions further south are anticipated to remain dry.

Moving to November 14 at 6am, several centimeters of snowfall are predicted for parts of the Highlands, while areas such as Aberdeen and Edinburgh in Scotland are likely to experience rain. Wet conditions are also expected in Newcastle, Belfast, and southern cities like Birmingham, Cardiff, and Plymouth, with London possibly avoiding heavy rainfall.

By November 15 at 6am, the weather maps suggest that heavy rain and strong winds will affect a large portion of the country. Northern Ireland and northern England are set to experience downpours, while wintry conditions, including snow on higher ground, are expected in the Highlands from Inverness to Wick. Conversely, the south of England, including London, Birmingham, and Cardiff, should experience milder weather conditions.

As we reach November 16 at 6am, the Highlands may see minimal to no snowfall, with icy conditions moving south towards Liverpool and Manchester. The most significant snowfall is anticipated for November 17 at 12pm, with rates of 8 to 10cm per hour expected over Northern Ireland and southern and central Scotland, reaching areas south of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Northern England, particularly regions near Newcastle, could also be impacted by the wintry weather.

The Met Office’s extended weather forecast from November 12 to 21 suggests an unsettled and predominantly mild start to the period, with rainbands moving across most UK regions, focusing more on the western and southern parts. There may be drier spells, especially towards the east and potentially the north, with a likelihood of frost and fog during calm nights.

Towards the middle of the month, a transition to generally drier weather across the UK is anticipated, accompanied by slightly cooler temperatures overall and an increased risk of overnight frost.
