An aviation social media personality tragically passed away in front of over 1,000 followers when his ultralight aircraft crashed and caught fire during a live online broadcast. Tang Feiji was live-streaming when his two-rotor aircraft suddenly veered and crashed in Jiange County, central China. Spectators watching the stream frantically urged for emergency assistance to save him, but unfortunately, Tang, aged 55, succumbed to the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tang was a well-known figure in Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province for his aviation content, boasting approximately 100,000 followers on the Chinese platform Douyin. Prior to the fatal incident, he had briefly landed to adjust his camera before taking off again. Notably, he was flying without a helmet or parachute at the time of the accident.
Following his death, Tang’s live-stream account has been set to private, limiting access to his previous content to existing followers only. Authorities in China have initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding Tang’s untimely demise.
Reports indicate that Tang had faced danger before, surviving two previous crashes attributed to technical malfunctions like a faulty fuel gauge. He had acquired the aircraft for an estimated £36,500 (CNY 350,000) the previous year, believing that a pilot’s license was unnecessary for operating ultralight aircraft. Aviation experts, however, emphasize the necessity of a license for flying any low-altitude aircraft.
