“South Park” Renames Itself “South America” in Trump-Inspired Move

Date:

In a bold move reminiscent of Donald Trump’s tactics, the long-running animated series “South Park” has decided to rebrand itself for its upcoming 29th season as “South America.” This name change is a clear nod to the U.S. president’s habit of renaming geographical features to emphasize America.

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone humorously announced the name change, citing the courage of tech giants Apple and Google in a statement. The decision to rename the show comes amidst ongoing legal issues involving the show’s parent company, Paramount Skydance, owned by David Ellison, who has denied any affiliation with Trump.

Trump’s trend of renaming landmarks started during his presidency, with attempts to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario to Lake America. While some entities have resisted these changes, Apple and Google have been criticized for complying with Trump’s directives on their maps.

The “South America” rebranding comes shortly after Trump suggested renaming New Mexico to New America. Whether this name change is a temporary gag or a running joke for the season remains to be seen, but it aligns with the show’s history of satirizing Trump and his administration.

Known for its controversial humor, “South Park” has won multiple Emmys and has been a constant target of Trump’s ire for its political commentary. The show’s upcoming season premiere on September 16 on Comedy Central, followed by its Canadian debut on Paramount+, promises more cutting-edge satire and lampooning of current events.
