Canadian striker Promise David is set to make his mark in the Premier League as Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed his signing on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The deal includes an obligation to buy for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, contingent upon meeting specific criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise also announced that David will join the Premier League starting from the next season, for a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward arrives at Brighton after a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and contributed to the club’s first league title win in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029.
David, who represented Canada in the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury, has four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team. Initially debuting for Nigeria’s under-23 team in October 2022, David later switched allegiance to Canada in February 2025 following FIFA approval.
Having played professionally in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before his move to Belgium in July 2024, David’s journey brings him to Brighton as the latest chapter in his career. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience, expecting him to be a valuable addition to the team.
Brighton, aiming to build on their eighth-place finish in the previous Premier League season, sees David’s arrival as a boost to their squad as they enter the new campaign.
