Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts gathered at Great Park in Irvine, California, over the weekend to enjoy live performances by their favorite artists. The event, named Daisy Chain Fields, aimed to raise funds for women’s health, reproductive rights, and combating gender-based violence.
Organized by pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo, Daisy Chain Fields featured an all-women lineup in homage to the iconic Lilith Fair from the 1990s. The festival showcased a mix of established and emerging talent, including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, and Garbage.
Before the festival kicked off, Rodrigo revealed that they had raised $10 million for the event’s non-profit partners, which was later matched by Melinda French Gates, totaling $20 million. The funds supported organizations like Planned Parenthood and the National Institute for Reproductive Health.
Rodrigo’s vision for Daisy Chain Fields was to unite various talents to advocate for women and girls. The festival included special performances, such as Rodrigo singing with Stevie Nicks and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette. Morissette adapted lyrics to her hit song “Ironic,” receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience.
Against the backdrop of ongoing challenges to reproductive rights in the US, Daisy Chain Fields served as a platform to raise awareness and funds for crucial causes. Rodrigo emphasized the importance of artists and activists coming together to inspire hope amidst adversity.
The festival’s success mirrored the impact of previous benefit concerts, such as FireAid and Lady Gaga’s COVID-19 relief event. Attendees at Daisy Chain Fields enjoyed not only music but also interactive art installations and exhibits celebrating feminist movements.
Despite the scorching temperatures, festival-goers, like Chase Martinez, expressed overwhelming positivity about their experience at Daisy Chain Fields. Martinez highlighted the sense of community and support among attendees, emphasizing the significance of contributing to a historic event advocating for women’s rights.
The festival’s collaboration with non-profit partners resonated deeply, with organizations like FreeFrom and the Center for Reproductive Rights expressing gratitude for the community’s support and unity showcased at Daisy Chain Fields. The event symbolized resilience and solidarity in the fight for gender equality and women’s rights.
