“WestJet Cabin Crew Union Discloses 18% Wage Increase Deal”

Date:

The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) revealed that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages spread over three years, along with a novel “duty period premium” to compensate for ground-based work. Additionally, the agreement encompasses extended time off, elevated food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.

Throughout a lengthy holiday weekend for many, all WestJet flights in a significant portion of Canada were suspended as the deadline for a strike by 4,400 flight attendants approached. The strike commenced early on Sunday, prompting the air carrier and the union to reach a tentative resolution on Monday, gradually restoring normal operations at WestJet.

Cabin crew members will vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
