Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill is set to join Kevin Sinfield in Sheffield for his ongoing fundraising efforts for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, will be running alongside Sinfield on Thursday as part of the ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge’s fourth stage.
Sinfield kicked off this latest challenge on Monday with the goal of completing an ultra marathon every day for a week. This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive charity challenge in support of MND causes, having amassed over £10 million to date. The funds raised have contributed to the establishment of a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the UK.
The inspiration behind Sinfield’s charitable endeavors stems from his former teammate and close friend Rob Burrow’s battle with MND. Sinfield’s remarkable dedication has garnered global recognition, with Ennis-Hill’s involvement expected to significantly boost awareness for MND.
A decorated athlete, Ennis-Hill secured Olympic glory in the heptathlon at the 2012 Games and boasts three world championship titles. Since retiring from competitive athletics in 2016, she has transitioned into a successful media career and serves as a patron for various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains steadfast in his quest to find a cure for MND, underscoring the urgency of continued advocacy efforts. The recent diagnosis of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody with MND serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing battle against the disease.
In a parallel initiative, Moody is planning a fundraising dinner in April and aims to organize a charity bike ride in 2026. Following the Sheffield leg of the challenge, Sinfield will proceed to Cumbria, Scotland, and ultimately conclude the event in Leeds on Sunday.
