Man Dies at Moto Service Station Causing Traffic Chaos

Date:

A man tragically passed away following a medical emergency at a Moto service station, leading to its closure and causing traffic congestion earlier today. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at Birch services on the M62 eastbound near Heywood, Greater Manchester, at 10:05 am. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 50-year-old man experienced a suspected heart attack in his vehicle and was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

According to The Manchester Evening News, the man’s relatives have been informed of his demise and are receiving support from specialized officers. Access to the Moto service station was temporarily restricted from the M62 eastbound this morning while emergency services dealt with the situation. The slip road was reopened around noon today, and Moto has been contacted for a statement.

The minor delay on the M62 this morning followed a chaotic night on the major motorway as severe weather conditions led to localized flooding, causing significant delays for motorists. The unfavorable weather conditions, following Met Office warnings for severe wind and rain, resulted in a lane closure near Huddersfield, leading to traffic congestion on the westbound section of the motorway.

Traffic England classified the incident as “severe” on its monitoring platform, cautioning individuals to take extra precautions on the slippery roads. The adverse conditions also impacted other motorways such as the M56, M6, and M61. In its yellow warning for the Midlands and northern England, including the affected part of the M62, the Met Office advised people to check road conditions before traveling.

The agency emphasized the importance of checking road conditions, bus and train schedules, and amending travel plans if necessary to avoid delays. Although weather warnings for severe rain and wind expired early this morning, around 3 am, navigating certain areas of the country remained challenging as earlier disruptions cleared up.
