Trump’s Health Concerns and Trade Tactics Unchanged in 2026

Date:

New Year, same familiar Donald Trump. Today he is expressing frustration that discussions about his well-being persist. Being the second oldest individual to occupy the Oval Office, with the older one being ousted for health reasons, such scrutiny is not surprising.

Simultaneously, he is engaged in confrontations with foreign nations on social media and backing down on tariff decisions. It appears that Donald Trump has not made any notable New Year’s resolutions. He has not even considered reducing his considerable daily aspirin intake. Thus, his actions in 2026 mirror those of the previous year. Let’s delve into his recent activities.

To address concerns about his health, Donald Trump participated in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Ironically, this interview seems to have exacerbated the concerns.

Initially, it was revealed that he underwent a CT scan, not an MRI scan. While a CT scan is quicker than an MRI, it provides less detailed tissue information. Trump mentioned using compression socks to alleviate lower leg swelling but discontinued their use due to personal preference. He acknowledged consuming more aspirin than recommended by his doctors for over 25 years, citing superstition as the reason. Trump’s daily aspirin intake of 325 milligrams is significantly higher than the standard dosage for someone of his age. He justifies this by stating it helps maintain blood thinness for heart health, a notion that many find perplexing.

Trump refuted claims of dozing off in meetings, attributing closed eyes in photos to blinking. This explanation seems odd considering his extensive television experience, particularly from hosting “The Apprentice.”

Expressing annoyance at the ongoing public discourse surrounding his health, Trump initiated an unplanned phone call with the Wall Street Journal as they were preparing an article on this topic. Later in the interview, he disclosed sustaining a cut on his hand from a high-five with Pam Bondi.

Furthermore, Trump mentioned carrying makeup to conceal bruises resulting from vigorous handshakes, or as he put it, when his hands are “whacked again by someone.” He emphasized the convenience of the makeup application, taking only about 10 seconds.

Recent reports resurfaced a claim made by Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters, suggesting that during his campaign, Trump would indulge in a combination of McDonald’s orders, including hot fries, a Filet-O-Fish, a Quarter Pounder, and a Big Mac, possibly even combining some of them.

Amid escalating economic protests in Iran, Trump and Iranian officials engaged in a war of words, further heightening tensions following recent military actions. Trump issued warnings to Iran via Truth Social, promising intervention if peaceful protesters were harmed. Meanwhile, Iranian officials accused the US and Israel of instigating the demonstrations, cautioning against external interference in Iran’s internal affairs.

In domestic politics, Zohran Mamdani, the newly sworn-in Mayor of New York, delivered a speech without referencing Trump, emphasizing a commitment to serving all New Yorkers and governing as a democratic socialist.

Trump, known by some as “TACO” (Trump Always Chickens Out), opted to postpone a plan to significantly increase tariffs on furniture for a year. His executive order maintains the current 25% tariff on certain goods but delays additional tariffs on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities.

The decision to delay tariff hikes comes amidst broader trade initiatives aimed at balancing trade and safeguarding national interests. Trump has justified the tariffs as necessary to support American industries and enhance national security.
