A man has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of threatening Nigel Farage. Fayaz Khan, a 26-year-old migrant from Afghanistan, made the threats in a TikTok video last year. The prosecution highlighted the seriousness of the threat, describing the video as “sinister and menacing.”
During the sentencing at Southwark Crown Court, it was revealed that Khan had provided a false name to British authorities due to his criminal record in Sweden, where he is known as Fayaz Husseini, aged 31. The court was informed that Khan used a different name to avoid detection by his “enemies.”
Prosecutors shared that Khan had a history of 17 convictions on 12 occasions, mostly for low-level offenses, including drug-related incidents. In one instance in June 2019, Khan was imprisoned for using threatening behavior towards a public servant.
After the sentencing, Nigel Farage expressed some relief, stating that the five-year sentence was appropriate given the severity of the offense. However, he raised concerns about Khan potentially returning to the streets in 18 months, given his criminal background.
Khan, upon being jailed, protested in court, claiming that Farage wanted to exploit him for political gain. Mrs. Justice Steyn, the sentencing judge, agreed with Farage’s assessment that the threats made by Khan were alarming and not to be taken lightly.
The prosecution emphasized that elected officials should be able to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation, ensuring that those who threaten them face legal consequences. Khan’s defense lawyer argued that his client’s actions were meant to be comedic and attention-seeking rather than a genuine threat to kill.
The court proceedings revealed the details of Khan’s threatening video response to Farage and his subsequent arrest upon entering the UK illegally. Khan’s defense maintained that the video was not intended as a real threat but as part of his character in making videos.
