“Argos Unveils Manhattan S4-R: Sky Q Alternative Sans Monthly Fees”

Date:

Argos has introduced a popular new device, the Manhattan S4-R set-top box, which offers similar features to Sky Q but without monthly fees. This device allows users to record programs, pause live TV, and store content on its internal hard drive. Unlike Sky Q, the Manhattan S4-R provides access to over 100 channels without any ongoing payments after the initial purchase.

Operating on the Freesat platform, the S4-R utilizes existing satellite dishes to deliver free channels directly to televisions, including BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, Sky Mix, and more. With a user-friendly interface, built-in search functions, and access to a vast library of on-demand content, the device supports popular apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.

While it may not offer premium sports and movie packages like Sky Q, Freesat stands out for its cost-free viewing experience. The Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently available for £219.99 at retailers such as Argos and Amazon, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions set to launch soon. Due to high demand, Argos has labeled the device as “in demand” and “selling fast.”

Manhattan’s Chief Operating Officer, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the S4-R’s enhanced recording capabilities, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings compared to the previous two-channel limit. Positioned as an affordable alternative for households seeking to replace subscription TV services, the S4-R offers increased flexibility and choice.

In a similar move, the Pleio puck has entered the market, offering streaming access to TVs without requiring an aerial. This device delivers over 50 live channels via the internet, competing with traditional broadcast methods. Following initial stock shortages, the Pleio puck is now back in stock, priced at £99.99, including a gaming controller and access to over 200 online games.

Sky has announced a 20% price reduction ahead of the upcoming World Cup, with prices for the Sky Glass Air TV starting at £4.50 per month. Customers interested in the advanced Sky Glass Gen 2 model, featuring a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, can expect to pay from £11 per month.
