A woman has reported finding her elderly uncle’s emaciated body in a chair at the assisted living facility where she had recently relocated him. Angela Boorn disclosed that her uncle, Gerald McClellan, aged 75, had passed away inside the West Valley assisted living center at least three to four days before being discovered.
Boorn expressed shock and sorrow at the neglect her uncle faced, emphasizing that he had not been checked on for several days. Recalling the distressing scene, she described McClellan’s appearance as skeletal with sunken eyes, highlighting the lack of response when she called out to him on October 16.
The incident took place at the LifeStream facility in Sun City, approximately 16 miles northwest of Phoenix. Boorn recounted that since her aunt’s death, she had moved McClellan to the facility in January, believing that the monthly rent she paid, amounting to nearly $1,700, ensured his safety.
Despite the facility’s protocol of residents signaling their well-being daily by pressing a button in their rooms, Boorn revealed that staff failed to follow up when McClellan did not respond. She emphasized that the negligence extended over four days, prompting her to speak out to alert other families with loved ones at the facility.
Boorn urged families to monitor their relatives closely, as she intends to raise awareness of the incident. The facility, in response, issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and gratitude to emergency responders. Boorn’s plans regarding potential legal action against LifeStream remain undisclosed.
