“UK and US Officials Praise Gaza Peace Efforts”

Date:

A high-ranking US official commended the United Kingdom and the chief advisor to Keir Starmer for their significant contributions to the ongoing Gaza peace summit. Steve Witkoff, the Middle East special envoy for Donald Trump, highlighted the crucial role played by Jonathan Powell, the Prime Minister’s adviser. This acknowledgment contrasts with the criticism directed at a UK minister by the American ambassador to Israel, who referred to the minister as “delusional.”

In a recent post, Witkoff expressed gratitude for the UK’s assistance and coordination in reaching the historic milestone in Israel. He specifically lauded the tireless efforts of National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson also emphasized the UK’s behind-the-scenes involvement in shaping the peace process, acknowledging the essential role played by the US government.

During a scheduled Gaza peace summit in Egypt, Keir Starmer is set to describe the event as a pivotal phase in ending the conflict and violence that have plagued the region for two years. Joining US President Donald Trump, Starmer flew to Sharm El-Sheikh for the peace plan signing ceremony, where they are expected to be joined by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, UN Secretary General António Guterres, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Starmer is anticipated to affirm the commitment to achieving lasting peace and a secure future for the region, emphasizing the importance of implementing the peace plan fully. The UK pledges support for the subsequent talks to ensure the plan’s comprehensive execution, aiming to facilitate the rebuilding of lives with safety and security for both sides.

At the summit, Starmer is likely to announce £20 million in UK aid, forming part of a broader £116 million commitment, to provide essential water, sanitation, and hygiene services to thousands of civilians in Gaza. This aid aims to alleviate the challenges faced by those in the war-torn region and support their livelihoods.
