Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan mansion has recently undergone a significant renovation to erase any reminders of the convicted sex offender’s crimes. The townhouse near Central Park has maintained its exterior, except for the removal of a brass ‘JE,’ while the interior has been extensively revamped to distance itself from its former notorious occupant.
City records reveal that a renovation worth $925,000 (£692,885) was completed last year by the property’s new owner, former Goldman Sachs executive Michael Daffey. Daffey acquired the property for $51 million (£37,952,466) in 2021, following a substantial price reduction of $88 million (£65,539,584) from the initial listing.
The renovations, as detailed in records obtained by the New York Post, involved alterations on five floors, including the removal of walls to create a more open layout where Epstein engaged in inappropriate behavior. One particular room, referred to as “The Dungeon” by the late accuser Virginia Giuffre in her posthumously published book “Nobody’s Girl,” had a wall removed to connect it to a massage chamber.
Describing the room as a dark and intimidating space, Giuffre mentioned features like black-lacquered cabinetry, blood red carpets, taxidermy, and a provocative chess set. Giuffre, who tragically passed away earlier this year, recounted instances of repeated rape and torture by Epstein during her teenage years.
Giuffre’s harrowing experiences included being restrained with elaborate contraptions and enduring immense pain. The renovations aimed to transform the property and erase any remnants of its dark past, reflecting a desire to move on from Epstein’s heinous actions.
