Armed police descended on the residence of Jihad Al-Shamie, the suspected Manchester synagogue attacker, according to a neighbor. A significant number of officers were seen at Langley Crescent in Prestwich following the recent terror incident outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, north Manchester, which resulted in two fatalities and four injuries.
The Greater Manchester Police have identified the assailant as 35-year-old Al-Shamie, a British national of Syrian origin, who was fatally shot by armed officers within seven minutes of the initial emergency call.
Simon Barlass, a 56-year-old neighbor, reported observing Al-Shamie working out in his garden recently. He witnessed a substantial police presence on Langley Hall Road, adjacent to Langley Crescent, with unmarked cars and armed officers arriving swiftly after the incident.
Barlass described the armed officers equipped with full gear, including helmets, body armor, and shields, some even carrying a chainsaw. He mentioned seeing them surrounding the suspect’s residence on Langley Crescent.
Following the operation, uniformed and plain-clothed officers were observed entering and exiting the property carrying boxes. Counter-terror police confirmed that the police activity was linked to arrests made in connection with the synagogue attack. Three individuals, two men in their 30s, and a woman in her 60s have been taken into custody.
Barlass, who resided in the targeted property previously, recalled encounters with the suspect bench-pressing in the garden and frequenting nearby shops. He also claimed to have noticed a vehicle, believed to be the one used in the attack, parked nearby in the days leading up to the incident.
