Growing up with a passion for football, my childhood dream was to play for Leicester City and represent the England national team. However, as you can imagine, things didn’t quite pan out as I had hoped.
Fortunately, I found my calling in the football world as a writer, allowing me to immerse myself in the sport daily and attend matches regularly. To fulfill my football cravings, I participate in weekly 5-a-side games at the local goals. But the true experience of feeling like a professional footballer eluded me until I stayed at the newly launched ‘Stay Like the England Teams’ room at the Hilton Hotel at St George’s Park in Burton-on-Trent.
Upon arrival at the hotel, my brother and I were taken to the players’ entrance, the same one used by renowned footballers like Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Lauren Hemp, in a buggy. We were welcomed with a personalized message and had the opportunity to sign our own England contract, complete with a special polaroid photo.
Inside the room, named ‘Suite Caroline,’ the design concept was evident with three football shirts displayed in a dressing-room style, including one worn by Alex Scott during her impressive 140 appearances for the national team. The room boasted ample space, a double bed, tea/coffee amenities, two bathrooms, two TVs, and storage for our belongings. However, the highlight was the outdoor cinema overlooking the picturesque grounds at St George’s Park, featuring a football-themed dugout with heated seats and a large screen, perfect for enjoying the latest EAFC 26 video game.
The excitement continued with an exclusive training session led by FA coach Ben at the Hilton Pitch, where my brother and I engaged in ball work and a competitive match. We also got a sneak peek at the training facilities, including the Cryotherapy chamber, indoor futsal halls, and the largest gym in Europe used by the national team players for strength and conditioning.
An exploration of the Sir Bobby Charlton Pitch, a replica of the Wembley Stadium pitch, offered a glimpse into where the top players train. Afterward, we were treated to a lavish dining experience in the Executive Lounge, enjoying complimentary drinks, canapés, and a delicious dinner while basking in the serene ambiance.
As the day wound down, we returned to our room to find cinema treats waiting for us, setting the stage for a cozy movie night. Despite the exclusivity of the ‘Stay Like the England Teams’ Suite, guests can still enjoy top-notch service and amenities, including a choice of set menu or buffet breakfast to refuel after training.
Although the experience comes at a premium price of £650 per night, inclusive of training, meals, accommodation, outdoor cinema access, and a behind-the-scenes tour, I found it to be well worth the investment given the luxurious room, immersive experiences, and added perks. Guests can indulge in a truly exclusive royal-like experience, making it a must-do for football enthusiasts, especially England supporters.
