Weather maps are showing alarming red colors as the UK braces for 75mph winds in an intense storm this week. Meteorologists predict a wet and windy day on Friday, with potential snow in isolated areas. The most severe weather is expected in Wales, the Northwest of England, and parts of Scotland as a low-pressure system moves in from the west.
Forecasters from Metdesk have issued maps highlighting red hues in western regions of the UK, indicating strong winds. Wind speeds of up to 75mph are forecasted along Scotland’s west coast and parts of the Lancashire coast by Friday evening, persisting into the night and strengthening inland across Cumbria and Northumberland by early Saturday.
Snowfall is anticipated on higher ground in the Lake District, Northumberland, and County Durham on Friday night. Heavier snow is likely in the Scottish Highlands, while rain is expected across Lancashire and Cumbria.
Due to the high winds, temperatures will feel as cold as -7C, especially in northern England and Scotland. This contrasts sharply with Tuesday’s mild temperatures exceeding 12C in Slough, Berkshire, and Swanage, Dorset.
As the storm progresses on Friday, heavy rain will move eastward, affecting Aberdeenshire and East Lothian. Concerns about flooding have led to numerous warnings and alerts, particularly in the Midlands, where rainfall is expected to persist.
Showers will continue into Saturday, raising flood concerns. Netweather meteorologists anticipate persistent rain and showers near coasts on Friday, with additional rain bands moving in from the southwest. Saturday is projected to be active with showers and longer spells of rain due to low pressure.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the Midlands may experience bleak weather conditions, according to the Met Office. The forecast includes early fog, strong winds, and more rain sweeping northeastward, with intermittent showers on Saturday and further rain on Sunday.
