“Top Racehorse Trainer Disqualified for Insulting Official”

Date:

A racehorse trainer based in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, has been disqualified after verbally insulting a racing official during an inspection. Garry Lunn, who has an impressive track record of training over 500 winners, including more than 100 at the Dubbo racecourse, faced consequences for his behavior.

The incident occurred when officials from RacingNSW conducted a stable audit inspection at Lunn’s yard and discovered discrepancies in the stable return records. Subsequently, racing steward Xavier Dalton returned for a follow-up inspection, only to be confronted by Lunn’s aggressive and disrespectful behavior. Lunn directed improper and offensive comments towards Dalton, including calling him “the dopiest Steward” and using profanities.

Despite Dalton’s attempts to conduct the inspection, Lunn continued his verbal abuse, following Dalton outside and persisting in his misconduct. As a result, Lunn was charged with obstructing and hindering Dalton from performing his duties and engaging in improper and insulting behavior towards the steward.

Although Lunn denied the charges, he was found guilty on both accounts. He received a three-month disqualification for the first offense and a nine-month disqualification for the second offense, with the terms running concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
