Households in a specific region of the UK are receiving supermarket vouchers worth £70 to assist with living expenses. Wakefield Council is distributing these vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund, which is tailored to each local council’s needs, offering various forms of aid such as energy support, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants.
The council is providing food vouchers to low-income households already receiving council tax assistance. Pensioners who qualify for Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households.
Starting from December 15, families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher, while all other qualifying households will get a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12. Eligible recipients do not need to apply for these vouchers as they will be automatically sent within 14 days of the specified dates. Residents are advised by Wakefield Council to remain vigilant against potential scammers.
For individuals residing outside Wakefield, it is advisable to explore the support available through their local council’s Household Support Fund. For instance, Blackpool Council is offering £200 in energy assistance to eligible one or two-person households, with higher aid of £300 allocated to qualifying households with three or more individuals.
To access this support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and an inability to meet their financial obligations. While it is not mandatory to be on Universal Credit or other benefits, only one grant can be claimed within a 12-month period. The aid is directly transferred to the energy provider, appearing as a credit on bills or pre-payment gas or electric meters. Applications can be made through the Blackpool Council website.
In a similar initiative, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is issuing £120 worth of vouchers to eligible residents. Working-age households receiving Council Tax Reduction recently received two £60 vouchers, with a similar distribution planned in January for pensioner households. Additionally, a one-off payment of £120 is available to low-income residents who pay energy bills and do not receive Council Tax Reduction.
