A significant snowfall is expected to cover a vast stretch of land from the south of England to the northern regions of Scotland, possibly reaching up to 34cm in some areas.
According to the GFS weather model, snow will initially fall over Scotland on December 10, then gradually progress southward into England, Wales, and Northern Ireland on the following day.
By 9 am on December 11, the snow is forecasted to cover a significant part of Wales, central, and north-west England, including cities like Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, and Blackpool.
The snow is anticipated to continue its journey southward, with light snowfall expected in Bristol and potentially even reaching London by midday on December 11. Meanwhile, heavy snowfall is predicted to persist in Scotland, particularly in the Highlands, with Glasgow and Edinburgh also experiencing wintry conditions.
On December 12, a second weather front is projected to move in from the Atlantic, bringing snow and heavy rain to southern England, with Devon likely to face substantial snowfall by around 3 pm.
This weather front is set to progress eastward along the south coast, affecting coastal towns like Bournemouth, Southampton, and Brighton, as well as potentially impacting South London with some snow showers by 6 pm.
Snow depth charts for December 13 indicate significant snow accumulation, with southern England expecting around 1cm of snow, while Scotland may see accumulations of up to 34cm.
The Met Office has also forecasted snow for the upcoming month, stating that changeable and unsettled weather conditions are likely, with showers or longer spells of rain across the UK. Furthermore, the forecast predicts average temperatures with occasional colder conditions in northern areas and the possibility of frost under drier, clearer conditions overnight.
Looking ahead to December 12 to 26, the weather is anticipated to remain unsettled with wet and windy spells, primarily in the northwest, but some drier periods may occur, especially in the southeast, with temperatures expected to be above average overall.
