An independent travel agency has closed down, adding to a series of recent closures within the industry this year. The latest casualty, Usher Travel Worldchoice, based in Wallasey, Merseyside, ceased operations on October 16, 2025. The closure was confirmed by ABTA, the UK’s largest travel association providing financial protection to travelers.
Director Gavin Morton, who has been part of Usher for 35 of its 60 years in business, expressed deep emotions regarding the closure, calling it one of the most heartbreaking moments of his life. Morton attributed the financial struggles leading to the closure to the impact of the prolonged travel restrictions and decreased client confidence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clients with existing bookings will be contacted soon to arrange ticket transfers. Usher Travel Worldchoice assured that future bookings will be shifted directly to clients’ tour operators to minimize disruptions. ABTA has issued guidance for affected Usher customers, advising them to contact their tour operators or principal travel businesses to ensure their travel arrangements proceed smoothly.
The news of Usher Travel Worldchoice’s closure has elicited a wave of support from loyal customers and competitors. Messages of sympathy and appreciation flooded social media platforms, with customers expressing gratitude for the agency’s longstanding service and assistance in vacation planning.
