Renowned Hollywood star Tim Curry has shared details about his encounter with Donald Trump while filming Home Alone 2. The British actor, aged 79, reminisced about his time with Trump before he entered politics, back when he was a successful New York business figure.
Decades after Home Alone 2 premiered, Tim has penned a memoir titled ‘Vagabond: A Memoir,’ recounting his life pre and post a debilitating stroke in 2012. Tim recalled Trump’s eagerness for his then-partner, Marla Maples, to meet the director during filming at The Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at the time.
In an interview with the Guardian, Tim revealed Trump’s desire to introduce Marla as a talented actress to the director. Tim humorously reflected on the situation. Additionally, Tim mentioned a humorous interaction with Trump’s wife, Ivana, regarding the hotel’s interior decor during his stay.
Tim Curry is not the only member of the Home Alone 2 cast and crew to comment on Trump’s cameo in the beloved holiday film, which was a major box office success. Director Chris Columbus, known for his work on the Harry Potter films, expressed regret over featuring Trump in the movie.
Columbus admitted that the scene had become burdensome for him and expressed a wish to remove it, referring to it as a “curse” and an “albatross.” Concerned about potential repercussions, Columbus, who has Italian heritage, joked about fleeing to Italy if he were to remove Trump’s cameo.
These statements from Columbus came in the wake of Trump’s second term as president, amidst fears of backlash from the administration against critics. The tensions between Hollywood figures and the Trump administration were evident during disputes following Jimmy Kimmel’s show suspension earlier in the year, while Trump celebrated on his social media platform, Truth Social.
