British Teen Missing in Thailand Amid Fears of Chinese Mafia Link

Date:

Concerns have escalated for a British teenager who went missing from a hotel in Thailand, as his family fears he may have been coerced into working at a deceptive Chinese mafia operation with no means of escape.

Lawrence Honour, a 19-year-old computer whiz, was last seen leaving his lodging in Kanchanabur on September 26. Reports suggest he attempted to cross into Myanmar but was denied entry due to border closure amid conflicts.

Authorities and relatives worry that he might be held captive within one of the call center factories controlled by Chinese criminal groups, where workers endure grueling conditions and mistreatment.

His family has made an emotional plea to intensify efforts in locating him to bring him back home, suspecting he may have fallen victim to a scam involving the factories. Lawrence resides in Thailand with his mother and British father, Julian Honour.

Gulnara, his mother, revealed details of his disappearance, expressing concerns about his online interactions possibly leading him to the fraudulent centers in Myanmar, where individuals are allegedly not allowed to leave.

Local reports indicate that he was intercepted while trying to breach a fence into the country and then picked up by a passerby while hitchhiking. Authorities have launched an urgent search operation in response.

Police Colonel Santi Phitaksakul, superintendent of Sangkhlaburi district station, mentioned that despite the circumstances, the boy’s mother remains hopeful for his safe return. The latest contact indicated he was in Sangkhlaburi, and subsequent sightings suggest he may have crossed into Myanmar.

Efforts are underway to collaborate with Myanmar authorities to trace his whereabouts, as witnesses reported spotting someone resembling him in the neighboring country. The investigation aims to determine the reasons behind his journey and ascertain potential assistance he may have received in crossing the border.
