Denise Black Makes BBC Soap Debut

Date:

A veteran of the popular TV show Coronation Street is embarking on a new acting challenge after nearly 30 years away from the soap’s familiar setting. Denise Black, known for her role as Denise Osbourne on the long-standing ITV series set in Weatherfield, where she played the former partner of Ken Barlow and mother of Daniel Osbourne, has now switched gears to join a BBC soap.

Having initially portrayed Denise Osbourne on Coronation Street from 1992 to 1997, Denise Black made a couple of return appearances in subsequent years after her full-time stint on the show. She also had a stint on Emmerdale before deciding to join the cast of Waterloo Road, a move that marks her transition from ITV to the BBC network.

In Waterloo Road, Denise Black will take on the character of Mo McManus, who gets entangled in a tense confrontation with law enforcement in one of the series’ gripping storylines. Fans can catch her debut performance in episode six of the newest season.

Denise’s prior role in Emmerdale saw her as Joanie Dingle, a character who stirred up drama within the Dingle family. However, her time in the Dales was cut short when her character met an untimely demise in 2017 due to a heart attack.

After bidding farewell to Emmerdale, Denise Black returned to the Corrie set, surprising viewers with her character’s unexpected return to prevent a potentially fatal act. Her character, Denise Osbourne, reappeared to intervene in a critical moment between her son, Daniel, and Ken Barlow, the show’s veteran character.

During her comeback on Coronation Street, Denise shared her experience of reconnecting with her on-screen son, played by Rob Mallard, by even staying at his place to rehearse together. Reflecting on her past role as Denise Osbourne, she humorously commented on her transformation over the years and the challenge of revisiting her early ’90s character.
