A significant change is forthcoming that will impact certain households’ ability to stream content online. Concerns have been raised for UK households utilizing BT TV, as specific set-top boxes are losing support for the widely-used Netflix application. The streaming service is undergoing upgrades, rendering older hardware incompatible with the updates.
Which devices will be affected by this change?
Two BT TV boxes are slated to lose support for Netflix:
– TV Recordable Box (G4)
– TV Box (Z4)
BT explained that this adjustment is due to Netflix updating its app to enhance user experience, resulting in incompatibility with these specific boxes.
As reported by Cordbusters, this alteration will come into effect on March 4, 2026. Subsequently, users of these boxes will no longer have access to Netflix content like Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they transition to newer models.
BT has confirmed that newer models will not encounter the Netflix support disruption.
“The remainder of our EE TV Boxes, including the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will continue to receive support,” the company stated.
Moreover, BT reassured customers that their Netflix subscriptions will not be impacted. “Your Netflix subscription will remain unaffected, and you can continue watching on supported devices.”
Individuals using the affected boxes are advised to contact BT to explore upgrading to a newer model.
Although Netflix will no longer be accessible through the impacted devices, alternative options include smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes.
