Luke Littler has hinted at the possibility of stepping away from the world of darts before he reaches the age of 30 only to potentially stage a comeback later on. The 18-year-old, known as The Nuke, recently secured a significant victory by clinching the World Matchplay title for the first time, adding to his impressive collection of accolades.
In a thrilling final match, Littler defeated James Wade with a score of 18-13, becoming the youngest player ever to achieve darts’ Triple Crown, which comprises the World Championship and the Premier League titles. Since his breakthrough at the 2023/24 World Championship as a 16-year-old, Littler has also triumphed in the Grand Slam of Darts and the UK Open.
While there is speculation that Littler could challenge the records set by Phil Taylor, who won 16 world titles and 16 World Matchplay crowns, it is acknowledged that it would likely require Littler to continue competing for at least two more decades to match Taylor’s accomplishments.
Despite his remarkable success in the past 18 months, with Littler already amassing substantial wealth, he has hinted at the possibility of taking a break from the game in the future. Littler expressed a desire to have achieved all his goals and financial security before considering a hiatus, potentially returning to the sport after a period of rest.
Reflecting on his achievements, Littler acknowledged that his busy schedule leaves little time for contemplation, with upcoming commitments including participation in the Australian Masters World Series event. He emphasized the importance of living in the present and staying focused on the challenges ahead.
In partnership with KP, Littler has launched the ‘Nuts for Darts’ campaign, offering a pub the opportunity to host the world champion for an evening of darts. He encouraged pub landlords to participate in the campaign, highlighting the exciting initiative by KP.
