A man shockingly admitted to the murder of his elderly parents and disclosed that he buried their bodies in the backyard of their residence in a televised interview. Lorenz Kraus, 53, calmly revealed during the interview that aired shortly after the police found the remains of his parents, Franz and Theresia Kraus, who went missing in 2017. In the interview with CBS6, Kraus affirmed to news anchor Greg Flloyd that he buried his parents on their property in Albany, where investigators had unearthed human remains over two days.
Kraus hesitantly acknowledged to Floyd that he had ended his parents’ lives, citing his Fifth Amendment rights. He detailed how he choked his father and strangled his mother before deciding to bury them in the backyard. The investigation into Kraus initially stemmed from financial misconduct suspicions, as reported by The Times Union. Law enforcement’s interest intensified when a welfare check on the elderly couple, who were still receiving benefits, revealed that they were missing, prompting a search that led to the grim discovery.
During the interview, Kraus expressed remorse for his actions, emphasizing that he recognized the wrongdoing. He highlighted the challenges faced by the aging population and called for legal reforms to address such issues. Kraus, seemingly of sound mind, expressed his desire for the interview to be shared on YouTube before being taken into custody upon exiting the CBS6 building.
In a peculiar turn of events, Kraus proposed a radical restructuring of the government system, suggesting the formation of a board of trustees to replace state and federal authorities. He hinted at potential legal repercussions under German law if his proposal was not implemented, while also making eccentric statements regarding prominent politicians and conspiracy theories.
Albany Police Chief Brendan Cox disclosed that efforts were ongoing to confirm the identities and causes of death of the discovered bodies, believed to be those of Franz and Theresia Kraus. The police shared that a welfare check request in 2020 had raised suspicions about the Krauses’ whereabouts, with a neighbor falsely claiming they had relocated abroad.
Following his not guilty plea in court, Lorenz Kraus was remanded in custody without bail.
