A social media content creator took on the challenge of surviving solely on Iceland’s budget-friendly £1 Ready-Meals and was surprised by the impact on his body.
Sam Wilder, known for testing popular food chains like Greggs and Toby Carvery, outlined the rules he set for his week-long experiment. He limited himself to spending a maximum of £1 per meal, totaling £21 for the full week, and committed to consuming at least three different products daily.
While exploring Iceland’s affordable £1 range, Sam couldn’t include premium items like branded pizzas or Greggs’ sausage rolls in his meals. He anticipated breakfast to be the most difficult due to limited one-pound options but settled for Iceland’s bacon and cheese turnover, staying comfortably under budget.
Despite the challenging cost-of-living situation in Britain, with prices on the rise, Iceland maintained its ready meal prices at £1, which Sam considered remarkable. He acknowledged concerns about the nutritional value of a week on frozen dinners but was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of his initial meals.
Throughout his experiment, Sam balanced evaluating the meals for taste and nutritional content while incorporating daily physical activities to counterbalance any potential health effects. Despite his spouse not partaking in the challenge, Sam continued with his frozen meal journey, noting both positive and negative aspects of the £1 range offerings.
By the end of the first day, Sam realized a calorie deficit but saw it as an opportunity to shed some post-honeymoon weight. Despite initial worries about monotony, he found a surprising variety in the range, although some sought-after items proved elusive or underwhelming.
Ultimately, sticking to Iceland’s £1 range for a week not only saved Sam money but also resulted in weight loss. He reflected on the experience, noting the cost-effectiveness and weight reduction benefits while expressing a longing for fresh food after the week-long experiment.
