Britons are being advised to keep an eye out for three valuable coins that, when combined, could be worth over £2,000. These 50 pence pieces are highly sought after by collectors, as highlighted by an expert.
In a video shared on the social media platform TikTok, a specialist known as the Coin Collecting Wizard informed viewers about the potential value of certain 50p coins. Specifically, he mentioned the importance of identifying a coin from 2017 featuring the Beatrix Potter character Benjamin Bunny on the reverse side.
The expert emphasized that the 2017 Benjamin Bunny 50p holds significant value only if it displays a specific error, where the Queen’s head on the obverse side is incorrectly oriented. Typically, this coin is only worth its face value unless it bears the rare rotation error with the Queen’s head facing the wrong direction.
According to the Coin Collecting Wizard, possessing the error version of the 2017 Benjamin Bunny coin could fetch around £30. Additionally, he highlighted another valuable coin, known as the aquatics coin minted in 2011 to commemorate the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. This coin features a swimmer’s face, with a rare version displaying water lines covering the face, making it highly desirable among collectors.
Furthermore, the expert mentioned a 50p coin depicting a high jumping athlete for the athletics category. Minted in 2009 and released into circulation in 2011, this coin is rarer than its later counterparts from the same series, potentially fetching a price of £250 or more for collectors.
Overall, these rare and valuable 50p coins offer an opportunity for individuals to check their spare change for hidden treasures that could translate into a significant monetary value.
