Monsta X, Mamamoo, Joy, B.I, Ateez And Woo!ah!: This Week’s 10 Bestselling Albums In Korea

Half a dozen just-released projects from a healthy mix of some of the most popular boy bands, girl groups and solo stars in the South Korean music industry debut inside the top 10 on the latest edition of the Gaon Albums chart, which ranks the bestselling full-lengths, EPs and single albums in South Korea every week, looking at how many copies were shipped to stores.

Leading the way is the highest-charting debut of this frame, Tomorrow X Together’s The Chaos Chapter: Freeze, which opens in first place. The title, the band’s sophomore Korean-language set, brings the all-male vocal act to the summit for the fourth time in their career.

After two consecutive turns atop the Gaon Albums chart, NCT Dream’s Hot Sauce is pushed off the throne by Tomorrow X Together’s latest release. Hot Sauce stands out as not just the bestselling title of the month of May, when it was released, but of 2021 in South Korea, as it’s about to pass two million confirmed sales, according to Gaon.

Monsta X launches their latest EP One of a Kind at No. 3 on the Gaon Albums chart, giving the popular band yet another placement inside the top 10. The short project, which has already produced at least one global hit in lead single “Gambler,” is the group’s fourteenth top 10 in South Korea (at least).

Singer Joy, known primarily as a member of the band Red Velvet, lands her first-ever appearance on the Gaon Albums chart as a soloist with her debut EP Hello. The six-song project arrives at No. 4, and it’s the second appearance on the tally for a member of the girl group this year, as fellow RV performer Wendy also broke into the highest tier on her own just a few months ago. Red Velvet itself has now appeared in the tier with 13 titles.

Speaking of girl groups, Mamamoo sees their new EP WAW open at No. 5, bringing them into the top 10 on the Gaon Albums chart for the lucky thirteenth time.

After making it big in the South Korean music industry as the frontman of the band iKon, B.I decided to go solo just a few years ago, and now he’s reached a new high on his own with his first full-length Waterfall. The title opens at No. 6, becoming his first top 10 without his former bandmates.

Nearly three years ago, NCT 127’s Regular-Irregular first appeared on the Gaon Albums chart, and it peaked at No. 1. Now, it’s back inside the top 10 on the tally, landing at No. 7. Coming in right behind that returning champion are two other projects that have already spent time inside the loftiest region on the competitive list, with Taemin’s Advice hitting No. 8 while ATEEZ’s Zero: Fever Part.2 settles at No. 9.

Rounding out a top 10 filled with new releases is one more debut, as girl group Woo!ah! prove they are ones to watch with their first hit single album Wish. The three-track release starts off at No. 10, giving the quintet their first top 10 win. They have previously topped out at No. 20 with their first single album, which consisted of just two tunes.
