Lewis clarified, “Cold callers pretending to be associated with MoneySavingExpert are fraudulent. I do not support cold calling; instead, the proper approach is to conduct thorough market comparisons, not push products unsolicited.”
If approached out of the blue offering savings on utilities or other services, Lewis advised declining politely. He urged recipients to disregard any claims linking the calls to MoneySavingExpert, emphasizing the deceptive nature of such solicitations.
To address persistent unwanted calls, individuals can block numbers through phone settings and register with the Telephone Preference Service for free to avoid marketing calls. Additionally, a downloadable “no cold callers” sign from MSE can deter unsolicited home visits.
To combat scams and fraud, individuals are encouraged to report incidents to Action Fraud or relevant authorities in Scotland. Suspected fraudulent calls should be terminated immediately, with contact details verified online. In case of suspected account compromise, contacting the bank promptly is advised, with the option to use the 159 hotline to connect directly.
