The FCDO has issued a recent caution for British travelers heading to Spain or already present there. This advisory, released by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which offers travel updates for over 200 countries globally, highlights severe weather conditions in certain Spanish regions. Specifically, weather warnings are in effect today for Murcia and Valencia, including Alicante province, with potential travel disruptions anticipated.
For individuals in the affected areas, adhering to local authorities’ guidance and staying updated on local weather forecasts is advised. Prospective travelers are urged to monitor communications from their travel provider or airline. This alert precedes upcoming changes to travel regulations for Spain and other European destinations, scheduled to commence on Sunday, October 12.
The imminent implementation of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) on October 12 will necessitate additional information from UK travelers. The EES, an automated IT system, will record details of UK travelers, including short-stay visa holders and visa-exempt individuals, each time they cross an EU external border. This data will include the traveler’s identity, travel document type, biometric data (fingerprints and facial images), as well as entry and exit dates and locations, ensuring compliance with fundamental rights and data protection.
Upon the launch of the EES, holidaymakers visiting the Schengen area will be required to create a digital record during their initial entry at the port or airport, involving fingerprint submission and photo capture at designated stations. While pre-departure information is unnecessary for Schengen travel, travelers arriving in Schengen countries should anticipate longer queues upon landing.
