“Father of Late Rugby Star Supports Lewis Moody in MND Battle”

Date:

Geoff Burrow, the father of the late Rob Burrow, has expressed solidarity with Lewis Moody following the England rugby icon’s disclosure of his motor neurone disease (MND) diagnosis. Moody, aged 47, shared his emotional revelation in a recent interview.

Joining the ranks of former rugby stars affected by the debilitating muscle-wasting disease, Moody follows in the footsteps of Doddie Weir and Burrow, who succumbed to the illness. Burrow valiantly fought MND for five years before his untimely death at 41 last June.

Moody’s future uncertainties deeply moved him, prompting Geoff to offer words of encouragement. Geoff shared a fundraiser link for Moody and his family, urging support during this challenging period. He wrote, “I’m devastated by Lewis’s diagnosis. His inspirational impact is felt by many. Let’s unite to aid him and his family through this difficult time.”

Additionally, Geoff included a link to a crowdfunding campaign aiming to raise £130,000 for Moody and his loved ones. The GoFundMe page bio highlights Moody’s resilience in facing the challenges ahead and emphasizes the importance of supporting his evolving needs and chosen causes.

Rob Burrow, alongside his former rugby league teammate Kevin Sinfield, raised significant charitable funds and awareness for MND before his passing. Their remarkable efforts were recognized with a CBE. Prince William surprised them at Headingley Stadium, where they both played for Leeds Rhinos.

Moody candidly discussed his diagnosis in an emotional BBC interview, expressing apprehension about confronting the future. A key figure in England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup victory, Moody had a distinguished career with 71 national team appearances and domestic success with Leicester and Bath.
