Spice Girl Melanie C, All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis, and Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts are teaming up with a Hollywood star to form the ultimate girl band. Rebel Wilson is spearheading a new movie project where they will come together as the supergroup.
The lineup also includes popular TV personality Sheridan Smith, known for her recent role in the ITV true crime drama I Fought The Law. The five-member group, named Girlfriends, will feature in an upcoming blockbuster film.
Directed by Rebel Wilson, known for her role in Bridesmaids, the movie revolves around her character, a pop diva ousted from her group’s reunion tour and ordered to do community service. She then takes on the task of mentoring a group of adolescent girls for a crucial audition with a top record label.
However, things take a twist as she faces challenges in the cutthroat music industry and her personal dilemmas simultaneously. Titled Girl Group, the comedy has commenced filming in the UK, as reported by Deadline. Rebel Wilson describes it as the ultimate girl power movie, aiming to deliver a fun and uplifting experience for the audience.
Rebel’s venture into directing has had its share of challenges, notably with her previous film The Deb facing delays due to a legal dispute with its British producers. In another project, she will star in Sky’s Original Cinema Christmas film Tinsel Town alongside Kiefer Sutherland and Danny Dyer, portraying a failed Hollywood actor in a heartwarming tale set in a quaint village.
Rebel Wilson also surprised fans by joining The Kooks on stage at Reading Festival, showcasing her singing skills and engaging the audience with her performance. Her upcoming projects indicate a diverse and exciting lineup for the talented actress.
